For the Cookies

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • teaspoons baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Frosting

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Food coloring optional
  • Sprinkles optional


  • In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt to combine. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (we recommend using an electric hand mixer), about 5 minutes.
  • Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated. Mix in the sour cream and vanilla extract until creamy.
  • Slowly add the flour mixture until fully combined. We recommend adding a cup at a time.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Press the dough together into a mound and wrap in plastic wrap. Allow to chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 300˚F. Line the baking trays with parchment paper.
  • Lightly flour a work surface, remove the dough from the plastic, and roll it out into a ½-inch thick slab. Using a cookie cutter (or wine glass), cut out the desired shapes. Any remaining dough can be re-pressed into a mound and re-flattened to a ½-inch thick slab to cut more cookies.
  • Transfer the cookies to the prepared trays, leaving about 1 inch in between cookies. You will need to work in batches.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cookie bottoms are golden brown. The tops should remain pale.
  • Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool. Repeat with remaining cookies.

To Make the Frosting:

  • In a large bowl, cream the butter with an electric hand mixer until fluffy.
  • Sift in the powdered sugar a little at a time and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Add the milk and continue to mix until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
  • If desired, add food coloring. You can also divide the frosting into different smaller bowls to make different colored frosting.
  • Frost the cooled cookies and decorate with sprinkles if desired. Enjoy!
