  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • cup milk
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups apples peeled, cored, and chopped
  • Oil for frying, as needed
  • Powdered sugar as needed


  • Heat the frying oil in a sauté pan to 375˚F.
  • While the oil is heating, sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl and whisk.
  • Add the milk, eggs, vanilla, and oil and mix well. Fold in the apples until evenly distributed.
  • Working in batches, carefully drop about a spoonful of batter into the hot oil. Deep fry until golden, about 5 minutes depending on your red doneness. Flip to fry on all sides, if necessary.
  • Use a slotted spoon or tongs to transfer the fritters to a paper towel-lined plate or cooling rack.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
